JBL VERTEC TAKES OFF IN
ASIA AND AUSTRALIA

Even though the JBL VerTec Line Array Speaker system was introduced less than a year ago, leading sound system companies worldwide have embraced the system. VerTec's combination of excellent audio quality, small size and light weight make it an ideal choice for many Asian customers, for whom size and weight are critical issues. Among VerTec's early adopters are major sound companies in Japan, Australia and Korea.

The first international VerTec owner was the Hibino PA Division in Tokyo, Japan. Asia's leading concert sound reinforcement company, Hibino first used their VerTec system on the Glay Super Arena Tour 2000. Currently Hibino PA has multiple large-venue VerTec systems powered by Crown amplification, and serves many high-profile international artists.

Also based in Tokyo, TwoMix, Inc. uses their VerTec system to provide sound reinforcement for a broad range of Japanese and internationally prominent artists. "We chose VerTec for its high fidelity and increased output abilities compared to other available line array systems," stated Kazuo Takei, Chief Engineer for TwoMix. In addition to providing rental sound systems for concerts and events, TwoMix recently installed a VerTec system in a newly-designed 300 seat auditorium for Sony.

The newest Asian member of the VerTec network is Acoustic, based in the Suginawi-ku area of Tokyo. Headed by chief engineer Shuichi "Tama" Yamatama, Acoustic is a well-established supplier of regional support for some of the world's leading tour sound companies.

Jands Production Services in Australia has kept their VerTec system busy since fielding their first tour four months ago. Major concert acts who have had their first experience with VerTec in Australia include Bon Jovi, Midnight Oil, Alice Cooper, Pantera, Bad Company and Kiss. Kenneth "Pooch" Van Druten, FOH mixer for Kiss stated, "This system is working out just great for us on this tour...lots of power. The mids are really where it's at on the JBL VerTec rig. In-your-face impact, and we need that with this band to get the vocals up over the guitar and drum mix!"

In April, Dai Young of Seoul, Korea previewed their new VerTec system for 140 of the country's top audio engineers. These audio pros received a full explanation and demonstration of the VerTec system and even had hands-on time for setting up VerTec on their own. At this preview event, Dai Young also employed the VerTec system for a concert by the country's top pop band, "Position".

"The Asian region has unique needs for portable, professional sound reinforcement systems. The package must be lightweight, compact, powerful and offer excellent fidelity" explained David Scheirman, Director, Tour Sound for JBL Professional. "JBL's new VerTec system is attractive to professional customers in Asia as well as America and Europe, because it has been specifically designed to offer these characteristics."
